So the people I was raised around and I are very different. I fit into the LJ group bi-poly-kinky-Pagan-gamer-geek (even though my relationship is not poly, but I am inclined toward that anyway) and they are right wing Catholics who were all in heterosexual marriages by the time they were 25 and think divorce is evil, all finished college, and like popular television and old music. I have a picture of them at thanksgiving one year where they are all (with no planning) wearing solid color sweaters at a perfectly set table. It scares me how 'normal' they are.

Now they know I am not like them maybe not to what extent, but I am generally a very cool, accepting person. I don't mind getting their annoying chain emails about praying and America being "one nation under GOD" (God is always in all caps in these emails), and I grit my teeth and put up with it when they buy bible stories for my daughter (they know I'm not Catholic, even though I was confirmed because my mom threatened to kick me out if I didn't). But then yesterday I got an email from my grandfather. Let's take a look at this email, shall we?

USPS New 4 4 -Cent Stamp Celebrates a Muslim holiday.

If there is only ONE thing you forward today... let it be this!

President Obama has directed the United States Postal Service to REMEMBER and HONOR the EID MUSLIM holiday season with a new commemorative 44-Cent First Class Holiday Postage Stamp..

REMEMBER to adamantly & vocally BOYCOTT this stamp, when you are purchasing your stamps at the post office.

All you have to say is " No thank you, I do not want that Muslim Stamp on my letters! "

To use this stamp would be a slap in the face to all those AMERICANS who died at the hands of those whom this stamp honors.

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of Pan Am Flight 103!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the Marine Barracks in Lebanon !

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the M ilitary Barracks in Saudi Arabia !

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the American Embassies in Africa !

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the USS COLE!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM attack on 9/11/2001 !

REMEMBER all the AMERICAN lives that were lost in those vicious MUSLIM attacks!

Pass this along to every Patriotic American that you know and get the word out! Honor the United States of America
!

This is the stamp it was talking about : http://s324.photobucket.com/albums/k321/thesuperpet/?action=view&current=8885833.jpg
So, needless to say, I was... some emotion I can't put a finger on. I honestly don't know enough about Islam to know what holiday it's talking about. I like religion, I like to learn about it, but I get screamed at for looking up things about Islam when I'm at home because my husband doesn't approve, thinks it will get us on an FBI watch list. *eyeroll* Anyway. I was peeved My own grandfather sending me things like that, messages of hate. So I emailed him back.

Please do not send me things like this again.

Islam is a peaceful religion, I have Islamic friends that are not terrorists, the people that did those abhorrent things were part of an extremist terrorist group. It would be like boycotting stamps with Easter Eggs because of the Crusades. If you don't want to buy the stamps, that is up to you, but getting something like this in my inbox is frustrating and just spreads fear, hatred and intolerance.

Also, you might notice that the stamp says "zazzle.com"

http://www.zazzle.com/stamps

There you can upload your own image, and it will put it on a stamp for you, so this is NOT a real stamp, it is something that someone made for personal reasons, not as supported by the USPS.

And all I got from that was an email that was sent to me and my cousin Rene (the srs black sheep of the family. See, he's gay. That's just... a total disgrace. He spends his days going to gay meetings plotting to destroy heterosexual marriage. And all he does all day is play video games, when hes not at his full time job. Evil video games. They make you violent you know.)  The email I got back read "Sorry,  I did mean to send it to you.  I only look at it like non christians not buying a Christmas stamp."

I just don't even know where to go with that one.

Take it as an apology of sorts and let it go. I think 90% of email forwards aren't actually read all the way through by people who send them.
